Scalable Role-Based Test Automation

Curately's platform spanned two web applications and a Chrome extension, each with multiple user roles carrying different credentials, permissions, and workflows. Automating every platform-role-workflow combination separately would have meant heavy script duplication and a maintenance burden that only grew with each new role.

We built a Katalon-based BDD automation framework using data-driven testing to manage credentials and role selection at runtime, and tags to control which scenarios are executed for a given role, platform, or test scope — instead of running the full suite every time. We extended coverage to the Chrome extension and then enabled the Curately team to write and maintain scenarios independently within the same framework.
